Trouble Every Day (2002)

Boring every minute.

I am not an advocate of book burning. In fact, I can think of little that is more abhorrent to me. By extension, I would not be an advocate of film burning. The destruction of "art," no matter what it has to say, is repulsive to me. However, if every copy of "Hannibal" and "Trouble Every Day" were to be inexplicably set on fire, I would not flinch. These films are repulsive trash that no human should ever be forced to endure.

"Trouble Every Day" is a gory, blood-soaked mess. It takes forever for its story to become (reasonably) clear and by that time we could give a fuck. The story is so stupid and basic, anyway, that it is not even worth the wait. It's a flimsy house of cards anchored in bullshit. I mean, this film is not only stupid, it's pretentious as fuck. Director Claire Denis (who should seek counseling) takes forever to get anything of substance going and then decides not to truly explain anything anyway. Pretentious git.

Plot points here are based around the stupidest of circumstances. A character breaks into a house and finds a woman held prisoner. He immediately begins to make out with her through the barricade of her door before pulling it down and fucking her. Stupid. A character rapes a hotel worker in a locker room. Nobody ever comes near to hear her screams. Ridiculous trash. It's hard to believe this crap was written and directed by a woman.

Vincent Gallo is hailed as "the star" of "Trouble Every Day." He does nothing here but look shaggy and wander around aimlessly, desperately trying to figure out the plot of this mess. He should really kick himself for accepting this role. Then again, what has he done of note since "Buffalo 66?" Maybe he should stick to music. His CD "When" is awesome. His acting here is not.

And speaking of music, it's sad that such an awesome score accompanies such a cruddy movie. Tindersticks does the music here and it is perfection. Spend your money on the soundtrack CD. Skip the film.

"Trouble Every Day" is complete heinous crap. Avoid it like the clap.
