D
Dahmer
- As if we needed another homophobic piece of crap.
Dallas
362 - Works amazingly well.
The
Dallas Connection - The humor here comes from watching
the really bad actors in the film struggling to deliver
their lines seriously.
Dancer in the
Dark - I've never felt so joyous after watching
such a depressing movie.
Dance
Party, USA - Mesmerizes the viewer and holds their
attention rapt.
Dangerous
Beauty
- This film is supposedly based on a true story. My
response to that is: unmitigated hogwash.
The
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys - Captures exactly
what it was like to be a 14 year old boy in 1970's America.
Dangerous
Minds - Tackles the plot of a duck-out-of-water
teacher taking on a unruly inner-city classroom. But
this film has a bit of a twist.
Danny
Deckchair - Quaint, sweet-hearted and easy to enjoy.
Dare Devil - I've never seen a more gay looking
superhero.
Dark
City - The plot is dumb, the acting is average and
the ending is pointless making the entire exercise a
rather moot point.
Dark
Water - Uninterested in scaring us, Salles provides
a murky, water-logged and overcast world where light
as well as hope seems an impossibility.
Das
Experiment - It is a fascinating and riveting movie.
David
and Goliath - Concerns itself with gay male body
image and embodies it's opinions in a rather drab and
typical story.
Dawn
of the Dead - This remake is an awesome film.
The
Day After Tomorrow - I wanted to see "Twister" more
than once. I saw "Independence Day" four times. With
this film, once is enough.
Days
- It's one of the few AIDS features to be made in the
last 10 years or so that deserves to be seen and reflected
upon.
Dazed
and Confused - Is really like being transported
back in time to the era of polyester, Kiss and the Bi-Centennial.
Dead
Man - It is probably the most accurate portrayal
of America's west circa the 1800's that we will ever
see.
Dead
Man on Campus -The film has moments of hilarity
mainly provided by the prospective roommates.
Dead
Man Walking - Is a classic.
Dead
Presidents - Ignore the misleading title. There's
more here than a story about money or robbery.
Dear
Pillow - This film is nothing less than a masterpiece.
Death and
Texas - I hate mockumentaries and I should have
known better than to go to this one.
Death
and the Maiden - If Amnesty International ever produced
a feature film,it might be "Death and the Maiden."
D.E.B.S.
- Incredibly positive and poignant.
Deconstructing Harry - An introspective
and rather autobiographical film.
The
Deep End - The "Cruising" of the new millenium.
Deep
Impact - Is actually an excellent, character driven,
drama that is subtly frightening in it's realism.
Delirium:
Episode 2 - This film seems to want to parody those
"on the street" documentaries about prostitutes that
attempt to show how it truly is.
De-Lovely - A homophobic
and regrettable film.
Deprivation
- The piece is really low-budg. But this again isn’t
what makes the film worthless.
Derrida
- Functional yet impossibly useless. Beautiful yet boring.
Priceless yet worthless.
Destiny's
Children - Exemplifies the best in short filmmaking.
Detroit
Rock City - It's prefect pitch in cinematic retro
bliss.
The
Devil's Advocate - Keanu Reeves, macho superstud
actor and rock musician pulls his weight.
The
Devil's Backbone - del
Toro uses the unreality of a ghost story to reflect
and refract the story of war and, especially, children
in war.
Diabolique
(1954) - Will surely drive you mad.
Diabolique
(1996) - There could be so much tension and so much
thematic exposition based on the young male characters
here and their relationships with their adult instructors
but it is lost.
Diary
of a Mad Black Woman - A glorious mess.
Dickie
Roberts: Former Child Star - There's hardly anything
funny at all in the damn thing even though Spade tries
like a trooper.
Die
Bitteren Tranen der Petra Von Kant - Rainer Werner
Fassbinder's claustrophobic look at a lesbian relationship
is stilted, harsh, staged and cold.
Dig!
- The film is filled with intense moments involving
Newcombe that often seem to jump right out of the screen
at the audience.
Die,
Mommie, Die - Amps up his campy brand of humor here
to spoof 50's melodrama.
Ding-a-ling-less
- The "Ding-a-ling" in the title refers to a penis and
the story here concerns Jack, a man without one.
Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights
- A bunch of silly hokum, an example of bad screenwriting
by committee passing as "important" nostalgia.
Dirty
Pretty Things - Pretty Boring Things is more like
it.
A
Dirty Shame - An absolute mess and undoubtedly his
worst film ever.
Dirty
Work - Note to Self: "Dirty Work" sucks.
Divine
Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - Fluffy yet thoughtful,
hilarious yet heart- warming.
Dodgeball:
A True Underdog Story - Certainly the kind of better
than mediocre, goofy, over-the-top shenanigans we've
come to expect from Stiller and his pals.
Dogma
-It's great fun. It's easy to see now why Smith had
so much trouble getting "Dogma" made directly after
"Clerks." The powers-that-be hated Mewes (idiots) and
to finance "Dogma" would be to make Mewes a major star.
He's great here.
Dog
Park - It gets by on pure charm.
Dogville
- Full of hatred for America and everything that America
stands for.
Donnie
Darko - the film becomes the blackest, most complex
and troubling teenage film since "The Virgin Suicides."
Donnie
Darko: The Director's Cut - It somehow seems too
complete for the first-time viewer.
Don't
Come Knocking - Offers us Wenders' best film in
many years.
The
Doom Generation - Writer/Director Gregg Araki's
3rd film is the quintessential embodiment of teen angst
captured on celluloid in full living color.
The
Door in the Floor - Tries very hard but, alas, just
doesn't quite make it.
The
Doors - Director Oliver Stone's mysticism and cultivation
of a pop icon.
Doctor
Dolittle - Murphy mellows down into family man and
father role-playing here and seems all the more lame
without his usual edge.
Dogtown
and Z-Boys - Not only is the film fantastically
assembled, from sight to sound, but it acts as a practical
encyclopedia on skateboarding in America.
Dorian
Blues - Is sort of the "kitchen sink" version of
a gay film.
Dot
Down
- Employing the best of 8mm New York underground filmmaking,
"Dot Down" is a beautiful film to watch.
Double
Jeopardy - The script is written by hacks. It's
not just that it's full of loopholes, it's that it's
full of ridiculous contrivances.
A
Double Life - Interesting George Cukor film that
works!
Double
Parked
- It doesn't work, can't work, because it is poorly
written, poorly executed and insanely amateurish.
Down
and Out with the Dolls - It's got some good stuff
in it and, then again, it's got some bad stuff in it
too.
Down
by Law - Shows us a hidden American world.
Downfall
- A long, boring, retread of stuff we already know.
Down
to Earth - By the shear tenacity and charm and humor
of Chris Rock, "Down to Earth" almost works. I say almost
because almost no one else in the cast contributes a
damn thing.
Down
with Love - Down with pointless movies!
Dracula:
Pages from a Virgin's Diary - This is a near waste
of film.
Drag
Kings on Tour - I've never been so unsure of my
sexuality in my entire life.
Dragonheart
- Well, the dragon looks cool but that's about all
this film has going for it.
Drop
Dead Sexy - If you love titties and you're into
necrophilia, then "Drop Dead Sexy" is the jack-off film
you have been waiting for.
Drowning
Mona - One of the most cool and amusing black comedies
in eons.
Dreamers
- Horrible acting. No budget picture quality. Boring
and irratating story. Lifelessness.A dull thud.
The
Dreamers - Is a "must-see" film, the first one of
2004.
Driving
Lessons - Your heart will just about explode with
the warmth gleaned from pure delight. This film is magical.
Dropping
Out - Very seldom do I see a movie where I just
can't make up my mind and decide what I think about
it.
Dr.
Dolittle 2 -Is probably better than it's predecessor.
One reason is definitely the script which hits all the
right notes.
Dr.
T and the Women - In the hands of leach Robert Altman,
the film wavers between that fine line of celebration
and infernal irritation.
Drumline
- I hate this film.
Dudley Do Right - It's got fart jokes and
hits to the crotch.
Duets
- If you want to see the most ignored and underappreciated
masterpiece of the year, then see "Duets."
Dumb
and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd - I'd rather
sit through the "1812 Overture" being played by The
All Accordion and Fingernails-on-the-Chalkboard All-Naked-Crackwhore-with-
Runny-Pussies Band than watch this film again.
The
Duo - These are some of the most important and most
talented people making indie films in Austin today..
The
Dying Gaul - Is just to dark and dissatisfying to
recommend.
