John Q(2001)
Review by F13's cub reporter Mobley
Starring: Denzel Washington, Robert Duvall, Anne
Heche, James Woods, Eddie Griffin, Kimberly Elsie There
are few actors who if they're in a movie its gonna be
good. Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise {except for Cocktail}
come to mind immediately. Denzel Washington is one of
those actors. He can take a movie all about a guy who's
constipated all the time and make it a triumph. Fortunately
in John Q. he didn't have to.
John Q. is a movie about how totally screwed up
today's insurance is. Denzel Washington plays a father
who's son {who looks exactly like Gray Coleman but without
the afro} has just been stricken with heat failure.
The boy needs a heart transplant as soon as possible
if any hope to live. Unfortunately for John and his
wife {played by Kimberly Elsie} their insurance won't
cover the operation. So John takes matters into his
own hands barracading himself in the hospital. And holding
several doctors hostage with the one demand to get his
son a heart transplant. This movie will keep you literally
on the edge of your seat Some critics gave this movie
an unfair review for being "unrealistic" when in truth
this is one of the most realistic movies I've ever seen.
It deals with a real topic. So screw A Beautiful Mind,
screw Ice Age, screw whatever you had planned on seeing
this week and go see this movie.
Want to hear a funny story? I go to the movies with
a terrible stomachache against my better judgement.
Right before the movie I run outside and throw up all
over the lobby. But this movie was worth it.
