Can't Hardly Wait (1998)

Gaybashing crap that could almost be stomachable if it didn't contain the most derogatory moments to gays in a Hollywood teeny film in quite a while. While some of the stories are interesting, the main one, where a senior (Ethan Embry) quests to tell a girl of his love for her is rather lackluster and tepid. We've seen this trite plot a million times. And when he kisses her as the climax of the film, it's rather a letdown. Also, with his limp-wristed, lisping recitations on his love for this girl, we find it rather hard to believe Embry is heterosexual.

In fact, lots of the male teen actors here are probably gay and which makes the anti-gay "jokey" stance of the film rather unstomachable.

Consider cute Charlie Korsmo setting up his antagonistic football playing schoolmate by getting him drunk and then taking snapshots of him in a state of undress with another football playing school chum in a lame and overdone attempt to blackmail him. Sounds more like an Internet story from a gay erotic newsgroup than it does a film plot line doesn't it.

Anyway, you can wait to see this film. All it really has going for it is cute teenagers and a never ending string of pop songs on the soundtrack. To bad they had to put the stupid plot and dialogue in there, otherwise, this might be the perfect summer teen flick.
