Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss (1998)

Cute gay film that wants to convert straight people to understand that gay romance is no different that straight. Of course, as with all gay films, this is preaching to the choir. Straight people rarely go to gay films. Those that do already understand this concept.

Billy is a photographer who wants to do shots which recall famous 50's screen kiss. Billy falls for an apparently straight Brad Pitt look-alike who may or may not have bisexual tendencies.

Another problem with the film is that it ends disappointingly. Who needs this heartbreak that recalls real life? We want fantasy! I mean, isn't that a part of the film? That movies in the 40's were fantasy and real life was real life. But now, fantasy and reality are blurred not only can the laws of nature can be changed (and, for example, boys can be girls) in films, now that can be part of reality as well. "Billy's" film just doesn't make much sense. It hurts us. It makes us settle.

Anyway, the best scene in the film is where Billy and Brad spend the night together in his bed where ever slight touch seems to take on monumental meaning. Also a plus is a trio of singing drag queens who act as a Greek Chorus throughout the film.

Also with Holly Woodlawn as a drag queen who also plays Deborah Kerr in a scene paying homage to "From Here to Eternity."
