Notes from Austin Volume 3 #11 - Lodger's Last Notes of 2001
Notes from Austin Kinda a short one this time. Let's face it, my day job is a nightmare during the holidays, so I haven't really had time to do much. I'm gonna have a good time with my friends at Wimberly on New Year's though.
In January, I was hoping to go to Park City for Sundance/Slamdance but Sundance shit on us and claimed they didn't get our app for press passes and I've let the whole trip lapse on the back burner. Now I'm thinking of just blowing it off, which is pretty typical for me.
In January, I will be traveling to Houston to see my parents and celebrate my 39th (fucking Christ) birthday with friends and family. Melissa is going to go with me I think. She's like my girlfriend now. Weird scenes. I'm so Gregg Araki.
On my Nightstand:

The 10th Anniversary Issue of "The Texas Triangle"

"Dictionary of the Future" by Faith Popcorn

In my CD Player:

The Call - Reconciled

Joan Armatrading - The Shouting Stage

Gary Numan - Telekon

Rent

David Bowie - Let's Dance

Shpongle

10 Movies that are out now, which I haven't seen yet that I want to see, in order of my desire to see them (most at top):

The Royal Tanenbaums

In the Bedroom

Amalie

The Majestic

Ali

Jimmy Neutron

A Matter of Taste

Shipping News

Dinner Rush

Lord of the Rings

Upcoming shows of interest in Austin in January:

1/12 - Jello Biafra (spoken word) - Lazona Rosa 1/14 - Bruce Willis - Antones 1/17 - English Beat - Antones 1/19 - Diane Schuur - One World 1/20 - David Benoit - One World 1/30 - Breeders - Emos

Wow. I'm really racking my brain to think of anything interesting I may have done lately. Can't think of a thing. I'm spending way too much time in front of webcams and not getting out and doing stuff… Oh yeah…

Recent Austin celebrity sightings:

Alex Jones - at Tinseltown seeing "Lord of the Rings" Harry and Jay Knowles - dining out at Hut's Hamburgers last weekend

Harry was on crutches. Did he get a spokesman gig at MediacalSurplus.com? Or was it just a promotion in preparation for "Lord of the Rings 2: Flight of the Infirmed?"

Something strange and funny happened after he left. The guy in the booth next to me started telling his dining companions about Harry, saying he did his reviews from his bed in a trailer here in Austin and that he wrote them on a computer using a keyboard which was missing keys or something. This he supposedly gleaned from an appearance Harry did on "Entertainment Tonight."

My most anticipated films for 2002:

waydowntown - a comedy about office workers

Todd Solondz's "Storytelling"

Hal Hartley's "No Such Thing"

M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs"

"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" from the book by Chuck Barris

Dreamworks animated "Spirit, Stallion of the Cimmaron"

Soderberg's "Full Frontal" - a sequel to "Sex, Lies and Videotape"

"The New Guy" - to see if John Christensen's featured extra work made it into the final cut

"Raw Deal: A Question of Consent" - a documentary about a rape at a frat party caught on videotape

Spielberg's "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise

"City of Ghosts," Matt Dillon's film featuring Shawn Andrews of "Dazed and Confused" and my fave AFF2001 film, "After the Flood."

Robert Rodriguez's "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" and "Spy Kids 2"

Danny Boyle's "28 Days"

Tom Tykwer's "Heaven"

Well - Happy New Years to ya - 2002 is a palindrome year - whatever it's worth…

Lodger - at the end of 2001 ("Oh my God - It's full of stars")
