AUSTIN FILM and ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
The film "Urbania"
continues to run at the Dobie. If you have not had a chance
to see this remarkable film, please check it out while you have
the chance. This one's going to end up on my Top Ten of All
Time list!
I got a nice e-mail from Luke Savisky the other day telling
me what he's up to of late: "I am currently in Holland working
on a solo multi-media project directed by a former Netherlands
Dance Theater dancer. The set we designed is kinetic and projected
on from four sides and gives an incredible impression of depth
perspective."
Sounds interesting. Wish we could see it.
The folks over at the Berkeley Video & Film Festival have given
Bob Ray's "Rock
Opera" an award for Comedy Feature Film. They'll be screening
the flick at their film festival on November 18-19 at The Fine
Arts Cinema (2451 Shattuck Ave).
"Rock Opera" may also have a screening in Austin at The
Bad Dog Comedy Theater soon. I'll bring you details as they
become available.
And finally, you can buy "Rock Opera" the movie on VHS via
direct mail or from Insound.com
Bob Ray invites you to, "Be the first on you block to own
your very own copy of 'Rock Opera.' Corrupt all your friends
with the instant cult classic! Buy it now on VHS for a measly
$15! Just send your loot to: Bob Ray, 2524 Baxter Drive, Austin,
Texas 78745 or go to http://www.insound.com
and buy one from them (but really, buy directly from me so
we cut out the middle man if possible.)"

Follow the misadventures of star-crossed lovers, a henpecked
linen-draper, and, of course, an honest whore as they search
for salvation and sanity in this "comedy of errors." The sounds
of Shakespeare are mixed with a 1970's look to bring to life
a cast of kooky characters in the Austin Free Shakespeare
Society's rendition of Thomas Dekker's "The Honest Whore."
The Austin Free Shakespeare Society is a sponsored project
of the Austin Circle of Theaters.
MR SINUS THEATER CHRISTMAS PARTY EXTRAVAGANZA!
In 1998, the hit television series Mystery Science Theater
3000 called in quits. Now in the year 2000, the Alamo Drafthouse
is carrying on the tradition of mixing bad movies with good
humorSonly this time it's live!
MR SINUS THEATER 3000 is the name of this new monthly show
that features three Austin comedians (Jerm Pollet, Owen Egerton,
and John ErlerSsee biographies on attached page) seated front
row with microphones, commenting on the films as they play.
A perfect synthesis of live comedy and an evening out at
the movies, MR SINUS THEATER 3000 has been playing to sold
out audiences at the Alamo all year, and now with the holiday
season, the comedy trio has cooked up the MST3K Christmas
Variety Show. Owen, John and Jerm tackle short subject holiday
films such as A Howdy Doody Christmas, A Punch and Judy Christmas,
1950's Christmas Teen Dramas, ham-handed Southern Christmas
Pageants, and more! Plus there is an intermission with the
a Mitch Miller Sing-A-Long and milk and cookies served at
your seat! Never before has there been a holiday entertainment
package so unique, so distinctly Austin and so wildly entertaining.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is booking Holiday parties now;
space is limited, so reserve your group today! We can accommodate
small groups at our regularly scheduled screenings of the
Christmas Variety Show, or large groups can have private screenings
that are closed to the public.
The Mr Sinus Theater 3000 Christmas Variety show is suitable
for all audiences. For more information about the Alamo Drafthouse
Cinema, Mr. Sinus Theater or other party/meeting options,
please contact Tim or Karrie at the Alamo (476-1320) or e-mail
owner@drafthouse.com. Additional information is also available
on our website at www.drafthouse.com.

Notes: (New 11-3-00)
The new John Goodman gay show "Normal, Ohio" was so loaded with
gay jokes and references that even I got sick of it. It was
just gay, gay, gay, gay, gay.
Including thoughts on Hobble, Nina Simone, Halloween at Charlies,
The Atomic Cafe, Normal Ohio, The $treet and more...
