South
by Southwest 2003 - Reviews
The
Nature of Nicholas - One of the things that keeps
the film from seeming derogatory and incorrect is that
it is set in what appears to be the 60's.
Bubba
Ho-Tep - A fun and campy wannabee cult.
Bollywood/Hollywood
- Knocked my socks off.
Raising
Victor Vargas - Captivates us with its stark reality
and its golden hued teenage sexuality.
The
Eye - Watch her squeak, squeal, eek, shiver and
breath heavy every time a corpse comes around.
Assisted
Living - Is a quiet and graceful film and one that
treats its story and its characters with the reverence
they deserve.
Levelland
- Remember the Summer of '42? This is supposed to be
the Summer of 2002!
Live from Shiva's Dancefloor - Timothy "Speed" Levitch
has perhaps the most quirky, intelligent and important
philosophical mind at work in American today.
It
is Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books
- Is sparse, arid and slowly paced. In the manner that
"Slacker" was verbose, "IIITLTPBRB" is quiet.
Sexless
- There's a lot of sex going on here.
The
Target Shoots First - the filmmaker's ability to
capture many genuine and honest moments on film is breathtaking.
Phone
Booth - Begins by immediately letting you know you're
in for a typical Hollywood movie.
Cinemania
- It's a mishmash mess that often leaves us wanting.
A
Mighty Wind - I realized during the screening of
this film that the reason I hate mockumentaries is that
they "mock" something.
Man’s
Downfall - This is not the cinema of 2000 and beyond,
but the cinema of the past.
Lilya
4-Ever - The message is blatant: The Capitalist
system, which spawned the worldwide proliferation of
companies like McDonald’s, turns teenage girls into
prostitutes and human beings into slaves.
Deprivation
- The piece is really low-budg. But this again isn’t
what makes the film worthless.
Happy Here and Now - I wasn’t happy here and now
when watching this turkey.
Robot Stories - The true delight of “Robot Stories”
is its unique qualities.
The Revolution
Will Not Be Televised - Such a one-sided, biased,
blatant display of political filmmaking.
