SXSW
2001 Reviews
The
Journeyman - Is a classic Western made for modern
audiences.
A
Constant Forge - It goes on and on and on, repeating
endlessly the same ideas and notions.
Tillsammans
- At least the film wants to end happily, wants to show
some love at the end of the rainbow.
Low
Self-esteem Girl - This film has nothing, NOTHING,
going for it.
Blow
- Is about one man's inability to grasp the true beauty
of life.
The
Zeros - The final scene which is, without doubt,
one of the most beautiful, poignant and important scenes
ever to grace the screen.
Freud's
Second Law - A children's play has more plot than
this film. A grocery list has more plot than this film.
Never
Again - The set-up and boldness of the characters
is really awesome.
Ginger
Snaps - Teen Wolf with Tits!
The
Slow Business of Going - A film that uses film language
so boldly and in such unique ways.
Southlander
- I've seen a lot of silly messes in my time, but it
has been a long time since I saw anything as silly or
as messy
Super
Troopers - I'm
just glad I wasn't high when I watched it or I would've
wet myself.
A
House on a Hill - It expands the limitations of
film. It opens up the frame of film in a way that hasn't
been done before. In fact, it busts the frame of film
wide open. It's astounding.
Amores
Perros (AKA Love's a Bitch) - Quite intriguing and
added many layers, making me wonder what might happen
next.
Frontier
- As unique as... well, so unique as to be uncatagorizable.
I guarantee you have never seen anything like it.
Memento
- The device of telling a story in reverse chronological
order. It is a screenwriter's gimmick. But the story
that unfolds here is so unique and so engrossing, the
device accentuates the piece.
Bartleby
- Is really a strange film apparently birthed from a
strange novel.
Godass
- There's really no other reason to see it. It's a dull
thud of a film.
Ladyporn
- Does something that I don't think I've ever seen before.
I'm sure it's been done before, but in my past film-going
experience, I just haven't come across it.
