Here are the latest rumors and rumblings I've heard

Ozzy Osbourne, who is the focus of Penelope Spheeris'
"We Sold Our Souls," will be onstage at EMO's with a
group his wife manages called Pure Rubbish.
The NXNE festival, organized by the same folks who
do SXSW, will not be happening in Portland later this
year! Financial woes killed the fest.
Garry Marshall will be in town (see more below)

Who: Austin Cinemaker Co-op What: 3rd Annual "Make
A Film in A Weekend" Film Festival When: Monday & Tuesday,
March 19 & 20th at 7:30 & 9:30pm Where: The Hideout,
617 Congress Avenue Why: Because MAFIA is the fastest,
most furious, and most completely raw film festival
we do all year!
CINEMAKER CO-OP PRESENTS THE THIRD ANNUAL CINEMAKER
M.A.F.I.A. WEEKEND FILM FESTIVAL!!! MARCH 19th & 20th
That's right Cinemakers & Film Enthusiasts - it's
time for AUSTIN CINEMAKER COOP'S THIRD ANNUAL MAKE A
FILM IN A WEEKEND film festival!!!
WHAT IS MAFIA WEEKEND YOU ASK?
Well....On the weekend of March 2-4, 2001, the Cinemaker
Co-op invited the local (and not so local!) community
to take part in film's most frantic time of the year.
The response was tremendous! Over 50 filmmakers came
out , signed up, picked up a prop...and took the next
48 hours to make their Super 8, in-camera edited, masterpiece!
THE SPECIFICS?
Participating filmmakers had just TWO DAYS to make
their one-reel, in-camera edited Super 8 film. Piece
of cake? Ha! Each film had to also feature a mystery
PROP, the identity of which was not revealed until the
FRIDAY before they began shooting! At 5pm on Friday,
participants lined the hallways outside our office waiting
for Cinemaker to reveal the secret PROP (a household
flyswatter). Filmmakers had no bounds- their films could
be about anything, in any style, as long as the prop
appeared somewhere during the course of the film! Then,
at 5pm, Sunday March 4 all participants returned their
cartridge of Super 8 film to Cinemaker for processing.
All films were shipped out to the lab on Monday, March
5 and will be returned by March 9. Filmmakers now must
meet the challenge of submitting the soundtracks for
their films (without seeing the finished product!) by
the time the films come back from the lab!
AND WHERE CAN YOU SEE THESE AMAZING FILMS?
The results will be viewed for the first time on March
19th & 20th at The Hideout (617 Congress Avenue). Please
note that this is a venue change for us and don't show
up at the Ritz by mistake!
Because of the amazing number of participants in this
festival, films will be split into two programs and
screened each night at 7:30 and 9:30. Admission will
be $2.50/Cinemaker Members & $5/General Public.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to see filmmaking
at it's rawest!

other Cinemaker events, contact Shannon Owens @ sowens@kmfa.org

Hi my name is David Zellner. My sibling Nathan and I have
a feature called "Frontier", starring Wiley Wiggins, premiering
at SXSW 2001. "Frontier" is a comedy of sorts, revolving
around the miniscule Eastern European nation of Bulbovia-
a country so downtrodden it was once occupied by Switzerland.
We'd love for you to check it out if you have a chance,
I guarantee it's unlike anything you?ve seen of late.
The screening times are 3/9 midnight @ Bad Dog Comedy
Theater, 3/11 11:45pm @ Bad Dog Comedy Theater, and
3/16 11:45pm @ The Alamo.
Thanks David Zellner http://www.frontiermovie.com
