Day 5
My life is Festival
Got up a bit late and lounged around. Went into Park City
around 12:30 and got tickets to "Double
Parked," a new film with Rufus Read (of "Happiness") and
Noah Fleiss (of "Joe the King"). Then headed down to Tromadance
to see what they had going on.
Ran into Timmy and he and Web had just seen Johnny Rotten
and taken two pictures with him. I walked Main looking for
him but did not see him.
On the way there, I got stopped by a woman from Channel 7
in Little Rock who did a quick interview thing with me. She
was nice. I mentioned the website, so she probably won't use
the footage. When I told her I was from Austin we talked about
SXSW a bit.
I saw three shorts at Tromadance, kinda. Ran in to one of
the guys from Troma whose been real nice to us this week;
He's the co-writter or maybe the director of "Terra Firma."
Tried to get the hook-up for their party tonight, but he shined
me on. This kinda surprised me. Troma has been promoting their
1 day film festival all week as a "festival for the people,"
so I didn't expect them to treat me like I wasn't cool enough
to get in.
Went back up to Slam and ran in to Mike Tarnower, Robert
McCollum and Jeanette Chivvis of "15
Minute Tape" on Main. Talked for a few minutes about his
short film.
Watched "Double Parked." After the film, during the Q&A,
the director mentioned that Noah Fleiss' flight was delayed
but that he would be here for the Friday showing. Me and two
of the teenage girls in attendance were highly disappointed.
Seriosuly... Fleiss and Read are two of the most amazing young
actors to be found.
Got out of the screening and met up with Tim. He had been
working with Mark David all day shooting some video of Mark
out promoting his film around town. Mark was there now with
Tim as was Chuck. Went back into the lounge party at Slam
and met William, who writes music with Mark and plays with
"The Agency". And
I was also introduced to a couple of guys from the band. And
then, like Wow! I meet Michael Dalmon, who stars in "Sweet
Thing" and "Attack of the Bat Monsters." Dalmon is one
of my favorite Austin actors so it was cool to meet him. He
was very high energy, much to my surprise. He seems like a
pretty nice guy. Dalmon also has a role in "What
I Like about You."
Tim and Web met up with a lot of celebs and got photos of
Tammy Faye Baker and RuPaul. Tim also heard stories of Ben
Affleck, Ethan Hawke, the Beastie Boys, and a lot of others
being here in town.
I was pretty depressed by all this, especially, since I hadn't
seen anyone. Then, as Web and Tim went and got the Yukon Cornelious
to pick me up, they saw and got a picture with Emilio Estevez.
I was really down. As we drove down Main, Tim spotted Val
Kilmer. We got out and Tim took a picture. Right next to him
was Kurt Russell. We got pictures and got back in the car
just in time to see Goldie come and hook up with Kurt. That
was insane. Surreal.
Went back to the condo, ate some chilli and hung out a bit.
Then Web, Tim and I went back into the city for the "Amargosa"
party. This is a documentary film that has been pumping the
promotion scene in Park City all week. They must have some
money behind them. They have full size one sheets, hats, and
more. The other day I even saw them putting up posters inside
an abandonned storefront for the film.
Too bad their party was a snooze festival. They had a really
great folk singer named Amy Cook (who also does the soundtrack
music) playing but, of course, you couldn't hear her over
all the schmoozing going on. I don't know how those little
guitarist girls handle doing a show like that.We saw the guy
who was a "producer" on "Searching
for Roger Taylor" and I saw the group from "The Monitor"
(a New York magazine), but other than that the party was pretty
dead. They closed down free drinks at 9pm, so we hit the road.
We walked up to Slamdance and met Mark David who immediately
hooked us up with free passes to see "What I Like About You."
I didn't realize that this was such an Austin based film or
I would have put it much higher on my "must see" list.
After the screening, we hung out a bit with Bob Ray, Mark
David, Michael Dalmon and some other folks involved with the
film.before we headed back to the condo to pack up and get
ready for check-out time tomorrow.
Our last full day at Park City.
