Sweet Thing -
Shows it
all, whether we are able to digest it or not, whether it fits
into our idea of the lexicon of cinema or not.
Rock
Opera - Loud,
bold, vulgar and fast. It's pretty original, pretty funny and
pretty cool.
A Galaxy Far Far Away - Is a
documentary about “Star Wars” fans. It uses 1999’s summer
blockbuster “The Phantom Menace” as a jumping in point to
begin a dialogue on the phenomenon that is George Lucas and
“Star Wars” et al.
The Strange Case of Senor Computer
- "The
Strange Case of Senor Computer" is neither "strange" nor a
"case" nor about a "computer." Discuss.
The Blair Bitch Project - Yes,
it's a spoof of "The Blair Witch Project." but the film, a
20-minute short, is so damn funny that it's an injustice to
the film to call it merely a "spoof."
Blink of An Eye -
Director Van Fischer slowly begins to braid together pieces of
a story that culminate into a look at urban life which is
wondrous and disquieting.
Central Garden - Smart,
sweet, gentle and touching, "Central Garden" is one of those
short films that screams to be made into a
feature.
Kings - Niva
Dorell's 20 minute short may be intended as a resume piece to
get a feature film made, but it functions on it's own as a delicate,
thoughtful and thought provoking look at a black man trying
to rectify his present tense and his past life.
Perfect
Little Man - Pulls out every overused cliche
and every stupid plot trick and somehow manages to put them
in the film in a way that you don't expect. Still, the film
is an atrocity.
Snow
Days - A delightful little heterosexual love
story that we can all enjoy.
NODANCE
Shorts Program #2 - Including: Moses vs. Jesus,
Studio Notes, Let'sMeet Johnny, Bathtub Bully,The Good Heart.
What
I Like About You - Has managed to capture the
spirit and the fun-loving attitude of those cheesy 80's romantic
teen comedies and updated it for the 90's. Okay, the 2K generation,
whatever.
Home
Sweet Hoboken - Scenes that mimic Hong Kong
Action films with their shadowy and soft pastel colors.
15
Minute Tape - Will evoke an hour of discussion
if you see it with a friend. That is, if you can sit through
it.
Can't
Speak - Drives assuredly to it's perfect climax.
Clockwork
Maury - The film is actually a fake, a spoof,
a mocumentary. It isn't Kubrick's brother.
Double
Parked - It doesn't work, can't work, because
it is poorly written, poorly executed and insanely amateurish.
Elevator
World - For anyone who would claim that you
cannot make an amusing, effective, and professional short
completely on computer, there is "Elevator World."
Searching
for Roger Taylor - "Searching for Roger Taylor"
has it all.
Troma
Shorts - Including: Breaking and Entering,
A Waiter Tomorrow, 3 Years of Scary Little Town.
Waiting
-"Waiting" starts with a static shot of an empty chair. Hopefully
this will be what the theaters look like if this piece of
shit ever sees the light of day in distribution: A bunch of
empty chairs.
"Crashpad"
and "One Arm Bandit" - Richard Allen's
two shorts, combined here to make one showing, are funny,
clever, and visually stunning.
Mosquito
- As the title implies, and as you can imagine (if you imagine
the worst), the film is mainly seen through the eyes of a
mosquito.
Dot
Down - Employing the best of 8mm New York underground
filmmaking, "Dot Down" is a beautiful film to watch.
Rosewater
- Perfect, intricate, surreal, experimental, avant-garde...
these terms seem inadequate.
The
Last Dance - Using the visuals of some older
couples dancing, the film takes this opportunity to delve
into a voice over narrative that communicates ideas and thoughts
on romance, marriage and a life lived together. It's pure
poetry.
Legs
- Set to a pulsing song but likable by Massive Attack, "legs"
is a visual dissertation on the titular limbs.
Voodoo
(By Tim "The Wonder Horse") - Is a funny little
B&W black comedy about a first date from hell.
Amargosa
-
Is about the life of one of America's greatest
and most obscure artists.
