Austin Film Festival 2002 - Film Reviews

Gaydar - It's really hard to judge films in that manner once you meet a filmmaker and like them, but... here goes anyway.

Love in the Time of Money - It's all been done before.

My Name is Buttons - In many ways, it's a tour-duo-force.

Master of the Game - It's unrealistic. It's so contrived that a new word other than contrived needs to be created to express how contrived this idea is.

Shag Carpet Sunset - Barely seems to entertain the people who are in it, let alone the audience.

Roger Dodger - Is so amazing,so jam-packed full of ideas and has a subject so complex that my head was swimming for three days after seeing it.

Manic - Why they didn't call this typical, contrived and unbelievable film "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest - The Prequel" is anybody's guess.

Beeper - It is obvious from the first set-up in this contrived and wooden piece of crud that the film is going to suck.

Lava - This one is like someone sucking off Guy Ritchie for 90 minutes.

Real Women Have Curves - The scripters here are just too lazy to work on the script and make stuff believable and justifiable.

The Safety of Objects - The "Magnolia" of 2002.

Standard Time - This film tries desperately to have a heart and be romantic but it just seems to miss the mark at most every beat.

Washington Heights - Isn't a bad film, but it didn't seem like a really good one to me either.

Das Experiment - It is a fascinating and riveting movie.

See You Off to the Edge of Town - If you think a road trip with your family is annoying as hell, you ought to ride along with the Kwans.
